Happy Day of LOVE!

Posted on Feb 14th, 2007 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team

We love you, did you know that? Seriously. In our most humble opinion, you're the most awesome, inspired, incredible community in the whole wide web. And even if you weren't on Zaadz, we'd still think you were pretty amazing. Seriously . . . have you seen all our members?

Go on. Click on that link. Because we have a little treat for you.

Our new People Search is here!

You can now search Zaadzsters by age, gender, interest, or whatever else they might have entered in their profile. Go have a look! Play around! And then leave a note here telling us what YOU'D like to see in a search feature. We're still tweaking and adjusting the tool, and we'd love to have your thoughts. (First you might want to check out the How To page for help and other tips . . .)

But what better way to spread some Valentine goodness? Go find someone new and send them a little note. Don't be shy. We're all good people here, and there's great chance you'll make someone's day. Do a search, see who comes up, and tell them what you liked most about their profile. Best friends and soul mates have been discovered in stranger ways . . .

i know many people use the people search feature to see the latest blogs.
unfortunately the search by latest blog is not currently available in the new format.
in the meantime before that is back up, you can use our global search (the search field next to the zaadz logo in the upper left of this page). don't put any text in the field, just click the magnifying glass search icon. it will show you the latest blogs alongside the last logged-in users and some other content.
Thank Aaron for the kewl new search.

age range is only applicable if you click the 'search by age' checkbox. Otherwise, it ignores the range. I'll make this more clear in the interface as I make more changes to the UI this week.

Also, if the page looks remotely confusing, just hit reload! Some browsers need a little time to adjust. :)

question:  will a sort function be available, ya know… like by alpha, signup date, etc… it looks like the current sort is just by last login… I still utilize sorting by signup … just wondering about that.

Ohhhh, yeah, I second Kelly's remarks about 'sorting by signup.'

This is sooooo facinating how you wizards create all these incredible options! WOW! I'm impressed!

Oops.  I went to the people search option and played with it – but I really don't get it.  I'd like to see a place to type in some keywords under, say, Interests, and see who shows up that way.  I don't understand how to find particular interests, movies, etc., when the icons with pictures and nicknames show up.  What are we supposed to do next?  I need more help with this.  Thanks!

I'm glad to see a new search option available.  But after I do a search, everytime I hit the back button to return to my searched page, it seems to reset itsself and I have to re-enter the search.  I hope this will be fixed soon.  Thanks!

Peace.

Awesome–I was waiting for this. And no, not for Zdating…I'm taken!

I couldn't see the age slider until I reloaded the page. Thanks Siona for the tip.

What happens to the “ageless” zaadsters?

It's not clear to the user how to search by location–I'd recommend putting it in the drop down menu, even though it is redundant.

It's also not immediately clear that the search will reload without reloading the page. I'd recommend a little swirly graphic that pops up in the foreground like with the image viewer. The image fadeout sorta works, but on slower machines/connections, it might be confusing. I've noticed this problem with many of the fancier AJAXy goodness–it breaks the user experience on slower coffeeshop wifi connections or when the Zaadz server is overloaded.

From an egocentric “I'd like to develop relationships with potential coaching clients that could pay my rates, using Zaadz as a tool” perspective, it would be nice to have income level be something in user profiles and be able to search for it. But that may be too much/too bold to ask.

Hi
This is brilliant, I love being on zaadz.  However I would like to be able to search some people perhaps on this side of the globe.  it would be nice if we could search by country.  it would be nice to make some connections with people living in Europe or France.  I am very new on my journey and it seems there is so much of it happening in the USA Australia, but it is hard to find similar minded people here in france….
I am so grateful my path lead me here…..

Maybe I haven't played with it long enough, but it doesn't appear to have a good “back” capability. If I search for people with a common interest, and then select one to read more about them, I would like to go Back to the list I received from my initial search. Like I said. Just started playing with it and its only 7:24am. Maybe its there and I'll find it.
Also, is there a way to search by location? Nice to find the enlightened souls that live nearby.

I used to be able to search by location (i.e. city). This is very helpful if you're trying to take that Zaadz connection from cyberspace to reality. But when I searched on my city (typed my city into the blank box), I got Zaadzsters from all over … What am I doing wrong?

How much fun are we having now?!?! I just did some random searches on the People Search not knowing what the heck I was looking for but trusting spirit, the Universe, the Big Kahuna to lead me to some interesting and good people and stumbled upon Adie's bio and also Alex Khuan(sp?)–both amazing people doing fantastic things to help others.  My heart feels full to bursting and I am inspired to keep on doing my thing with coaching, writing and the radio to help others and trust that the monetary support will flow in as needed.

By the way, Peggy (I think it was you) I'm just under 50 so yes, I suspect there are those of us out here who, although we may have slightly aging “earth suits” have young hearts, zealous spirits and are full of passionate energy to create the world of our dreams.

This is great. Thanks for creating it.

A couple of suggestions:

1. Let people put their relationship status (single, in a relationship, etc.) on their profiles and let people search by relationship status.

2. This may be a tall order, but add complex boolean features to the search capabilities, like Google. For example, I’d like to find people who are interested in psychotherapy or clinical psychology in the San Francisco Bay Area. If this were like Google, I’d enter the following:

(“clinical psychology” OR psychotherapy) AND (“san francisco” OR berkeley OR oakland)

To get the same results using your current system, I’d have to run 6 separate searches.

Thanks for being open to feedback.

some suggestions:

1. let people search by relationship status
2. let people search for people within 25 miles of their zip code, instead of just searching for people all over, because i don't want to meet people on the other side of the country
3. when i search people, zaadz changes the way it groups people, so i may keep seeing the same people on page 1, as when i look at page 6.  so my suggestion is to make it uniform

I agree with Freddy above.  I'd like to be able to search by location with in a certain radius.  Relationship status would be good to as well as not resetting the search when you go back (although I can workaround that by opening links in new tabs in firefox).

Anyway, great job guys and gals!
